About Mic Test

Mic Test is a free, browser-based tool built for one job: to test your microphone online, quickly and honestly, without asking you to download anything, create an account, or hand over any personal information.

Why We Built This

Most mic test tools stop at a simple pass or fail — you speak, a bar moves, and that's it. That's not usually enough to fix an actual problem. If your microphone sounds too quiet, clips on loud words, or seems to work in one app but not another, a generic pass/fail result doesn't tell you what to do next. Mic Test was built to close that gap: it watches your input in real time and calls out specific, common problems — permission blocked, no signal detected, level too low, or input clipping — with a one-line fix for each one.

What It Does

Once you grant microphone access, Mic Test lists every input device your browser can see — built-in laptop mics, USB microphones, gaming headsets, Bluetooth headsets, and webcam mics — so you always know exactly which one you're testing. You get a live level meter and waveform that respond as you speak, automatic stereo left/right metering when a stereo device is detected, and a record-and-playback feature so you can actually hear how you sound, not just watch a bar move.

Privacy Comes First

Because this tool needs microphone access to work, we think it's worth being extremely clear about what happens with your audio: nothing is ever uploaded, transmitted, or stored on a server. Every part of the experience — the level meter, the waveform, the recording and playback — runs entirely in your browser using standard Web Audio and MediaRecorder APIs. An Independent Project

Mic Test is an independently run, free tool — not backed by a larger company or ad network. It's kept intentionally simple: one page, one job, done well.
